The Jupiter Show
In mid July of 1994 the World was abrubtly reminded of the vagaries of Chance in the Universe by the discovery of "Shoemake-Levy 9,"  a fragmented comet headed for impact on Jupiter. Reminded once again of our tenous grasp on life in the face of natural forces on a scale never before witnessed, a Brooklyn NY artist, Lynda Smith, curated an exhibition called "The Jupiter Show ."

This is a slide show I created for that exhibition. Each of the drawings is etched onto a single 35mm color slide approx. 3/4"x 1-1/4", developed but never exposed. The works show my interest in Chinese Art and Islamic pattern making and my cynicism regarding violence and its effects, with violence towards Art and Women as featured events. There are diagrams and illustrations, Maxims and Aphorisms distorted to reflect a contemporary metaphor as well as my view of formalist modernist painting in NY as of that date.

The work loses a great deal as it was designed to be seen on an 8' tall screen but you will get it.
